Resident Evil 2007
This work is a deconstruction of the term Resident Evil. This work includes a blow up toy with a print of the American wrestler Batista on it. This toy was wedged in between two vending machines, as these vending machines are often found outside shops in residential areas. The word ‘evil’ could be linked to the objects in these machines.
The viewers were able to place R2 coins into the vending machines to try and catch one of the objects inside the machines. These serve as symbols of consumerism, desire and status. The viewer also activated a censored spotlight next to the machines. By activating the light, it changed the appearance of the Batista toy. The work speaks therefore of masculinity and desire. The title of the work was taken from the movie poster that covered a broken mirror inside one of the machines.
